hmmm

I am a college grad student pursuing computer science degree. As a CS grad student coding is one skill set you must have in you disposal. Along with that our university is very keen on research and I love being a scientist from I was a kid as many other kids do. Part of being a research student is you have to select an area you have to explore. Here comes the first way you may make a choice for all the wrong reasons. Because research areas is very similar to fashion trends or any other trends in the world. There will be one research area that will be booming and one that has seen its lime light and now became a old guy and one evergreen area. And you got to make your choice, are you going to go with the crowd? or are you going to stick with old guy? or try out the evergreen hero.

You may choose any one and there is nothing wrong in choosing any one of those. But there are many wrong reasons to choose, each of those. But lets look at the right reasons that I see here, the trending research area is always a good choice cause its booming because of a reason, there might be many unsolved problems waiting there for potential solutions. But choosing this trending research are is not like choosing a fashion trend  or choosing the trending phone because you have to contribute to that area which means you build a part of it which makes it better which I believe you can only do when you love it. So choosing such area just because crowd is moving some place might not going to work in case of research areas.

Second one is  choosing the old guy, it has seen its lime light once and all the people moved some where else but remember it is researched heavily once which means it is a useful area which helped people and it is highly probable people are using applications based on research once done and there will be some problems left and they are surely interesting as they are once to many. But all those are wrong reasons to  get into it as I have said before you got to build the area with your own mind.

And that brings us to the final one the evergreen one this is proven to have a interesting problems whenever you step into it and problems are great for researcher. But choosing this just for the reason is nothing but following the crowd, crowd may be small now but you are following the larger crowd the cumulative crowd from the start of the time which brings you to the same fault as you would have if you have followed the crowd to the trending research area.

So the one and only thing i am saying is selecting a research area is like choosing a city not to live but to build so don't look at the comforts of living there just see if you have the passion to build the city cause you are the architect not the tenant.
